IC Optical have a senior optometrist within each store, who has revenue targets to achieve. As this news article reports, there is a possibility that some patients are potentially sold glasses that are considered unnecessary.

Ethical issues such as professional malpractice can appear within case study exams and you may be required to evaluate such issues. As with all exams, there will be marks relating to ethical issues and not all ethical issues will relate to an accountant manipulating a set of accounts.

Word of warning, if this scenario cropped up in your exam… The Optician is not a CIMA member and therefore it would not be appropriate to apply CIMA’s Code of Professional Ethics. Fairness, Transparency and Effect present a better approach to your answer.
